Craig Wright, who claims to have invented bitcoin was ordered by a US district court in Florida to pay $5bn to the family of David Kleiman.

David Kleiman was Craigs partner and co-creator of bitcoin before he passed away in 2013. It is estimated that the pair mined up to 1 million bitcoin.

However, Craig claimed that he did not have access to the necessary codes that could make this trade possible. He told the court that he must wait for a courier that will arrive in 2020 with the codes to make this deal possible.

Wright has formerly claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto, an alias that he used to create the crypto currency and to protect his real identity, however he has never been able to back these claims up.

More recently, however, Kleimans estate has alleged that the two were partners and that Kleiman is owed half of the bitcoin they mined.

Wright, in his remarkable court hearing, says that after he and his partner saw bitcoin being used for illegal means, he mined the bitcoin and put them into an encrypted blind trust. The encrypted key was then split up into multiple slices and divided by Kleiman himself.

“During his testimony, Dr. Wright’s demeanor did not impress me as someone who was telling the truth. When it was favorable to him, Dr. Wright appeared to have an excellent memory and a scrupulous attention to detail. Otherwise, Dr. Wright was belligerent and evasive,” said Judge Bruce Reinhart.

Judge Reinhart was not convinced by Craig’s claim that a mysterious character will deliver the codes in 2020.
