Inzamam-ul-Haq has decided to step down from the post of Pakistan team chief selector, the former cricketer himself announced on Wednesday.
While talking to the media in Lahore, Inzamam said that he doesn’t want an extension in his contract as team’s chief selector. “I have informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB)’s MD Wasim Khan about my decision. I am satisfied with my three and a half years tenure with the team and I wish best of luck to the board for future,” he told media.
The former cricketer said that the team management, captain and head coach faced immense criticism during this time but they worked hard together for the betterment of cricket in Pakistan.
“I absorbed immense criticism during my time as the chief selector,” he stated.
Inzamam asked the cricket board to introduce a long term plan for the team keeping in mind World Test championship. He said that the new selection committee should be given time till the next world cup.
“Its time for some new people to come and work for the betterment of cricket in Pakistan,” he said.
To a query about taking up another role in the board, Inzamam said that he is always there to serve for Pakistan’s cricket. “If PCB offers me some other duties apart from the selection so I will take it,” he stated.
It is pertinent to mention here that Inzamam will leave the office by July 30. He has informed the PCB about his decision as the board is expected to publish an advertisement for the post of the chief selector by the end of July.
